Dr. Nelson founded the company now known as Nelson Forensics on April 1, 1994. His vision and leadership over the past 25 years have led Nelson’s multi-disciplined, nationwide team of technical experts to the pinnacle of the engineering community.
Dr. Nelson is a pioneer in the field of forensic engineering, with more than 36 years of experience as a structural engineer. He has performed engineering evaluations following historical events such as Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike, Hurricane Sandy and the Joplin, Missouri tornado. Further, he has worked on forensic projects in Puerto Rico and Russia. Dr. Nelson has assessed damage from multiple gas explosions and the West, Texas ammonium nitrate explosion. His lifelong achievements were formally recognized by The University of Texas at Austin in 2014 with his induction into the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering’s Academy of Distinguished Alumni.
Dr. Nelson has published numerous technical articles on topics such as foundation and wall veneer failures, roof collapses, hurricanes, and explosions. He has lectured at universities and major conferences on the subject of Forensic Engineering. During the course of his career, Dr. Nelson has been a recognized expert witness in his area of expertise in courts of law in several states and federal jurisdictions throughout the country.
