Mr. Smith has performed hundreds of forensic evaluations of varying building types, and he has been involved in the design and project management of multiple projects in the healthcare arena. His primary areas of focus and expertise are building envelope and flashing systems, air and water infiltration testing, curtainwall and storefront systems, stucco and EIFS veneer systems, architectural design and detailing, and review of building codes and accessibility standards.
Mr. Smith’s forensic experience includes the assessment of damaged buildings and structures related to construction and design defects, storm events, and water intrusion. Mr. Smith has co-authored publications and delivered presentations for continuing education on construction and design defects, veneer failures, and the installation of curtainwall and storefront systems.
Prior to joining Nelson Forensics in 2010, Mr. Smith participated in the design and construction of healthcare facilities; including a $200,000,000 replacement hospital in South Carolina, a $70,000,000, six story hospital addition in Washington, and a $6,300,000 cancer center in Florida.
